Today, Rapha have released a commemorative jersey marking the end of the successful four-year partnership with Team Sky, and they've aptly named it 'Le Départ'. We were cheeky enough to catch a glimpse of this jersey in person at Rapha HQ last week, and here it is.
The design says thank you to the boys in black and blue and bids goodbye to the partnership after a fruitful four years
After four years together, Rapha will cease providing Team Sky with race-wear by the end of this year. To celebrate the partnership, and the number of victories enjoyed together, including three Tours de France wins, Rapha have created this limited edition version of the Classic Jersey II, but with the added detail of hand-sewn roundels to mark each of the team's victories, as well as the dates on the collar and three gold stars for every TDF won whilst wearing Rapha. Special features include the name of every Team Sky rider who raced for the team between 2013 and 2016 printed onto the Rapha-esq armband.
Most companies won't talk about the end, but with the amount of learning, the research and the success that came out of the partnership, we really wanted to celebrate that
The construction and fit of the jersey is the same as the Classic Jersey II, which is a new generation of Rapha’s iconic jersey, reworked for 2016. Cut from RPM 150, a new merino-based fabric, it is promised to be lighter, softer and more breathable than the previous fabric. Though it is designed to be worn, I wouldn't be surprised if most of these jersey end up framed on walls. Get your while you still can.
"Le Départ" will go on sale at Rapha, online and in store, for £140 and is a limited edition.
